Arthroscopic Management of the Meniscus Injury

Abstract
The increasing popularity of arthroscopic techniques has permitted documentation of the usefulness of the techniques in diagnosis and in treatment such as partial meniscectomy, meniscal repair.
During the period from October 1988 to May 1992, arthoroscopic management were performed in 80 menisci of 76 patients. Of the 76 patients, there were 72 males and 4 females ranging in age from 15 to 58 years(mean age 28.6 years). The mean follow
up
period was 18 months.
There were 63 menisci treated with partial, 10 cases treated with subtotal, 3 menisci with total meniscectomy. And the arthroscopic repair was performed in 4 menisci of longitudinal tear.
@ES The statistical analyses were as follows.
@EN 1. The most common prevalent age group was 3rd decades(38 menisci) and male was more injured than female.
2. the most common type of tear was the longitudinal tear including bucket-handle and peripheral tear.
3. Associated lesions were chondromalacia(11 cases), ACL rupture(9 cases) and discoid meniscus(7 cases). Of the 7 cases of discoid menisci, 6 were torn.
4. The satisfactory results were got from the 59 patients(77.7%), and the following were associated with the satisfactory results, that is, longitudinal tear(77.8%), oblique tear(81.8%) and flap tear(83.3%) and management with partial
menisectomy(84.1%) or arthroscopic repair(100%).
